War Memorial

NAMES RECORDED ON THE WAR MEMORIAL FORGE GREEN, HALLING [WMR 88176]

Introduction

When we look at War Memorials we see a list of names.  But what about the people behind the inscriptions.  I have listed the 82 names on the War Memorial from both World Wars.  To this I have added information from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) website (see PDF File).  This includes the regiment and unit/ship they served in, the date they died and where they are buried or commemorated. There are some blanks where I cannot find any information at all, or where I am currently not sure if I have the right person.  If anyone can point me in the right direction on these it will be appreciated.

The next step is to gather information on these people from sources such as parish records, census’s, war records etc. to build a picture of their family history.  I have started on this research and hope that I will be in a position to publish information on some individuals in the near future. Some of the information I have already assembled has originated from other websites; I will need to ensure that I have permission from those before I publish any detailed information. If anyone has information or photos’ they are willing to share that would be fabulous.

As this information is assembled from many sources there may be errors.  Any corrections will be gratefully received, as will any additional information.  This project is definitely a work in progress; I am sure I will be updating it many times. (Last updated 10-Jan-2024)
